Maryluz Barragan-Gonzalez

In 2015, Maryluz worked with the NGO, ACDIVOCA, advancing a project related to diversity in public employment in Colombia. In this project, she was a part of the research team that conducted the first characterization of public servants in the country. The characterization showed an underestimation of the Afrocolombian people in the Executive Branch.

Later, in 2016, she went on to join the strategic litigation team at Dejusticia - Center of Law, Justice and

Society. During this period, she worked on the initiative which led the Constitutional Court to require private businesses to have protocols, in order to prevent workplace harassment based on race.

She was selected by the national periodical, El Espectador, and the Color Foundation of Colombia as Afro-Colombian of the Year in 2018, in the Justice and Rights category.

Finally, Maryluz is the co-founder of ILEX Acción Jurídica, an organization of Afro-Colombian lawyers, which is dedicated to racial justice in Colombia.
